Brown Bear Hunting

Artemis Hunting organizes brown bear hunts in Croatia for the last 20 years. From recently we also organize them in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which also has great trophies, populations and hunting grounds but without a guarantee for trophy export, so the hunt is cheaper than in Croatia. For Croatia brown bear hunts it is possible to get the trophy export paper – CITES. We hunt brown bear using warm high seats over the bait during the night. The spring hunting season is from March 15th to May 15th, and the fall hunting season is from September 15th to December 15th. We usually use calibers such as the .308 Win., .30-06, and .300 Win. Mag. Although bears are big animals, they are quite soft-bodied. Using a much larger caliber can sometimes cause the bullet to pass through without expanding properly, which may result in the bear running off wounded. That creates a difficult and potentially dangerous tracking situation, so we prefer these proven calibers with good-quality expanding bullets. Guests sometimes combine brown bear with wild boar, mouflon and Balkan chamois hunts because they share the same hunting grounds.
